Another shooting at VA Tech

Gun violence at Virginia Tech left a police officer and his alleged assailant dead yesterday (Thursday), but it wasn't nearly as bad as the 2007 shooting rampage at the campus, which remains the deadliest in modern U.S. history.
In a strange coincidence, the latest shooting took place on the same day Virginia Tech officials were in Washington, D.C., arguing over a government fine for their alleged mishandling of the 2007 incident.
Although the alleged shooter turned the gun on himself shortly after killing the officer, the school's high-tech alert system warning students and faculty members to stay indoors effectively locked down the campus this time.

Oh boy, one of my favorite show, Mythbusters, had a big boo boo happen.

A cannonball experiment went astray the other day in the Northern California city of Dublin, wreaking havoc on a neighborhood. It bounced off the sidewalk and went through the front door of a family's home, past a sleeping couple, leaving a 10-inch hole in a bedroom wall, hit the roof of another home and then bounced across the street and went through the window of a minivan.
The cannonball was supposed to hit a few water-filled barrels and a concrete wall, but missed its target. According to Alameda County Sheriff Sergeant J.D. Nelson, who is also a consultant on the show, producers have shot off the same cannon at a firing range near that neighborhood 50 times without incident.

What a huge Hollywood loss!

Harry Morgan, one of TV's busiest character actors, died Wednesday in L.A. at age 96.

Best known as Colonel Potter in MASH and Bill Gannon in both the '60s version of Dragnet and its 1987 movie spoof, the Detroit native was known for his wry smile, baritone voice and easy, self-depreciating humor. He had such a recognizable voice and warm feel about him. He will be missed!

Poor Alec!

Alec Baldwin was kicked off a plane yesterday at Los Angeles International airport after he refused to stop playing a game on his cellphone.

I got his tweet yesterday; "Flight attendant on American reamed me out for playing Words With Friends while we sat at the gate, not movin'." He ended up taking a later flight on the airline, but wrote, "Last flight with American -- where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950s find jobs as flight attendants."

In a statement, the actor's rep confirmed, "Alec was asked to leave the flight for playing Words With Friends while parked at the gate. He loves WWF so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it, but he has already boarded another AA flight."

Alec joins a growing list of celebs who've been kicked off planes. Earlier this week, country singer John Rich was booted from a Southwest flight after he displayed "drunken behavior." Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong was removed, also from Southwest, in September for wearing sagging pants, and director Kevin Smith made headlines last year when he was deemed "too fat to fly," also by Southwest.
