Gun violence at Virginia Tech left a police officer and his alleged assailant dead yesterday (Thursday), but it wasn't nearly as bad as the 2007 shooting rampage at the campus, which remains the deadliest in modern U.S. history.
In a strange coincidence, the latest shooting took place on the same day Virginia Tech officials were in Washington, D.C., arguing over a government fine for their alleged mishandling of the 2007 incident.Although the alleged shooter turned the gun on himself shortly after killing the officer, the school's high-tech alert system warning students and faculty members to stay indoors effectively locked down the campus this time.
